What is the Meaning of Result SGP?

In order to understand the meaning of result sgp, it is important to know what growth data are measured. Growth data are based on students’ MCAS scaled scores and their academic peers in previous MCAS administrations in the same subject area. This information is used to determine relative performance and to help students set goals for improvement.

Student growth percentiles (SGP) are averages calculated to analyze growth at the school or district level. SGPs are reported for individual students, schools, districts and subgroups within a school or district. The averages for individual students may change from year to year because the growth data is based on a sample of students.

The average SGP for a student may also vary from year to year due to differences in the number of students tested. This variation is a result of a change in the demographics of the student population or a change in the number of students who were administered the test that is used to calculate the SGP.

For example, Students A and B both scored the same on this year’s MCAS test in a particular subject area. However, they have different SGPs because their MCAS scaled score histories are different. Since the SGP is based on comparing students with similar score histories, they likely have different academic peer groups.

The SGP report is an invaluable tool for educators and families to use when planning instruction and assessing student progress. However, it is important to keep in mind that SGP reports do not capture all of the information about student growth. Other data sources are needed to understand student learning, development, and achievement.

In addition to SGP reports, DESE provides many resources for schools and districts on how to interpret and use the information contained in the reports. Educators should read the SGP Guide for Administrators, which includes sample SGP reports and prompts to help educators use the data to reflect on their instructional practices.

For more information about SGP, read the following articles. The articles provide background about SGP, a description of how to calculate and interpret the reports, and tips on using the data to make informed decisions for students. In addition, you can find links to resources that will help schools and districts implement best practices in support of student growth. The resources are organized by topic, so you can easily find the information you need. The information is available in both English and Spanish. We hope you find these resources useful!
